AirBuddy is a layover companion app designed to discover and plan your time used in every specific international airport. My team and I produced this project for an interface design class within seven weeks.
Our goal throughout using the app is to discovoer premier and exclusive goods + activities specifically distinct from every airport. We would like to suggest a plan while staying at the airport and illustrating the timeline and routes. Our ultimate goal is to let the users to have better airport experience and to take good usages of utilities and facilities at the airport.

My team found that almost every frequent flyer has been stuck at an airport due to weather, mechanical issues or other delays. Passengers comlain a lot to the front desk staffs when flight delays happened due to weather or mechanical issues. People usually gets lost physically, and gets frustrated emotionally. We wanted to build the app that helps international travelers to have better airport experience and take good usages of utilities and facilities at the airport.

We have tried some other airport apps that are already existed. Throughout this process, the main issue that we found was overall look and feel of the apps were very dry, dead, aestheticlaly unpelasing, which made the users do not want to try out. Also, the contents were not organized and structured well engough, and they were all outdated. Therefore, we wanted to apply a user friendly design, natural language, welcoming style, to enhance the reliability so that users are more comfortable by using the app.

We started to build up the app based on our style guide and the scneario/journey map as shown above. People usually carry luggages and bags, therefore they can’t use both hands for the app. As a result, we have decided that our application is one hand friendly designed for mobile platforms. The circulation of the app is designed in a way that there’s is no dead end, and user can constantly interact with it.

Based on the idea and concept, our group tried to come out with feasible wireframes and interface design. At this point, flow/circulation of the app was our main consideration. Based on the wireframes, we started design the interface with illustration based graphics to meet our goal.

In order to enhance the qualities of interface design, we had done the user testing, which was an interview and think aloud testing. From the utser testing, we found out the there were some visibility issues, so the user was not able to read the contents well. As a result, we have modified the look of icons and removed uncleared + unnecessary interactive elements.
