ABOUT THE NON-PROFIT SECTOR

A non-profit organization (NPO) is a dedicated group that collectively advocates for their mission without generating revenues for their organization and its members. NPOs operate to address “social welfare”, “civic improvement”, “pleasure or recreation”, and “any other purpose except profit”.

QUESTION INTENT

Employers will be looking for employees whose goals (personal and professional) align with the organization's mission. Unlike for-profit organizations, employers will be looking for hires who understand that in the absence of creating a profitable product or service, you will be working to create positive change and a difference.

The following questions will determine whether you are passion-driven and are willing to participate in socially beneficial work. Because NPOs function on tight budgets, they will be hiring candidates who have a wide-range of skills. Emphasize your ability to be a flexible worker with a multitude of talents and skills across professions.
