A bunch of letters
The letters are crafted with creative license- as anything from cartoon drawings to encouraging words within an envelope are left around campus to hopefully inspire, uplift, and put smiles on people’s faces.

"The world doesn’t need another website. It doesn’t need another app or a network."

"What it needs is really basic. LOVE. Pure, old-fashioned, never goes out of style Love."

These are the opening words on the The World Needs More Love Letters website, an organization that is dedicated to leaving love letters around for strangers to find.

The organization’s founder, Hannah Brencher, began leaving letters around New York City back in 2010, as a way to combat her own struggles and depression. Fast forward to 2015, and her simple gesture has expanded into a global organization where people are sending love letters to each other from all across the world. What started out with a simple yet powerful premise has impacted the lives of so many people in the best way.

Campus Cursive is the university-affiliated branch of More Love Letters, in which students organize themselves to spread love letters around campus and beyond. SFU’s chapter was established in fall of 2014 by Micaela Evans, a second-year Communications student. “I had been a big fan of The World Needs More Love Letters and its founder for years before I started at SFU.” She says, “When I got here, I was surprised to see that it didn't have a Campus Cursive chapter, or anything similar. I decided that this would be a great way for me to become more involved with the organization I love and hopefully facilitate some words of encouragement spread throughout campus."

There are over 70 Campus Cursive chapters in total, and SFU’s chapter is one of the growing number of chapters in Canada. Club members get together every two weeks to write letters for students, often with cups of tea and cookies in hand. The letters are crafted with creative license- as anything from cartoon drawings to encouraging words within an envelope are left around campus to hopefully inspire, uplift, and put smiles on people’s faces. Campus Cursive SFU is definitely a club that is fulfilling and has a whole lot of heart.

Like Campus Cursive’s Facebook page to receive updates on meeting times and current letter writing campaigns. People can also write letters on their own time by viewing the letter requests on the official More Love Letters site. Spreading positivity with words is one of the best feelings, so why not get started?
