During my Experience
Orientation and First Weeks

Because of the supportive group of people I worked with, I found it very easy to transition. My team was very helpful and walked me through the job expectations thoroughly and at a pace I was comfortable with.

Reflection & Tips
Most Valuable Aspects of This Experience

I was interested in marketing because of both the creative aspect and the social aspect. I got to use my creativity when it came to helping plan campaigns to promote Opportunity Fest, and when I assisted the marketing team with making a promotional video. Because there was a team of people working on OppFest, I was able to work with and learn from others every day. I loved when I got to brainstorm and work with others to come up with creative solutions to problems.

I learned how to write professional emails, and how to work in a team and collaborate with others both internally and externally. I also learned how much is involved in planning an event, including all of the small tasks that come together to make the event happen!

My favourite memory is working alongside Lizzy, the other Co-op student hired at the Chang Institute. We became fast friends, and it was a joy being able to work with her for the whole term. We helped each other grow and would assist each other in situations of uncertainty or high pressure.

Advice for Future Students

Don’t be afraid to ask your manager questions if there is anything you are unclear about! It can feel scary to ask, but the staff here are more than happy to help, and it is usually best for everyone is any uncertainties are cleared up quickly as it will increase efficiency and ensure that you are on the right track.

For all Co-op students, apply for jobs that really appeal to you! It will greatly improve your co-op experience if you enjoy the work that you are doing.
