I’ve been in SFU Vocal Jazz club for 3 years now as a co-director. We’re a causal choir club on campus, and we are completely student-run. We sing more contemporary music and easier music and we typically sing more popular Jazz music and Disney music. Being in an executive position, there are procedures and rules that I have to follow; I learnt to be firm in my position because just because someone is your friend doesn’t mean they can bend the rules.

My most memorable experiences with the club are when my members are on stage and they have practiced really hard. We’re so-called the “underdog” because we accept people of all music abilities. When everyone puts in the effort to learn how to sing, it sounds beautiful and we’re all enjoying that moment on stage together. I’d say that’s the best part of being in this club.
