Story Faculty

During my first few university years, I didn’t volunteer – I just went to school and worked. But when I began to look back and ask myself what I wanted to do with my life, I wasn’t sure. So I decided to see what was out there. I’d always been interested in event management, but I had no idea what it takes to put together an event, or how to even start. I applied to this Coordinator position the evening it was due, not really expecting anything to come from it – but next thing I knew I had an interview! Once I officially joined the team, we were starting way later than we should have.

We were pushing our deadlines. As the event date came nearer, I really thought we would run out of time. I kept realizing how much I didn’t know about coordinating volunteers, but my team was my backbone and the faith our supervisor had in us was unbelievable. We ended up planning the entire Fair in just over a week. I learned so much from this ride, all because I took a risk. Honestly, it’s true what they say: there’s no harm in applying. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. I truly believe this.
