As a first year student, I struggled to adjust to student life and didn't know what to expect.
I decided to become a mentor so that I could help other Indigenous students along the road to academic success. I really enjoy having the opportunity to put my own knowledge to use in a way that is of assistance to others.
It's a really rewarding feeling to know that my mentees look up to me as a role model and that they value my input enough to consult me when they encounter a challenge.
This role has allowed me to develop invaluable communication and leadership skills which I would not have been able to otherwise. Helping others is a great way to pursue your goals; I know that my time spent volunteering will be of great benefit to me in my career and beyond.
