MSE 428 project required student teams to develop a working automata to tell a story. This automata (for the purpose of the class) has to incorporate atleast five different types of mechanisms to actuate the movement in order to tell the story. Our animation story was Mario Kart where we have well known characters of the game performing acts. The actuated members of the system are the Mario in the go kart, the bullet bill bomb flying by parallel to the Mario, a bomb travelling from the boat, and a koopa shell perpedicular to the kart. The story when animated shows Mario finishing the race with all other components attempting to hinder Mario's progress.
This project was a great learning experience to realize that modelling a system and actually building a system has many non-linearities and practical considerations to take in.
