Episode Description

Welcome to the first episode of On the Spot with the OLC! Are you someone starting your journey at SFU or in the midst of a degree but still looking to meet people and make new friends? Not everyone finds it easy to approach new people and initiate conversation. This can be especially difficult if you are coming to school for your classes and returning home right after. Your hosts, Terae and Mehtaab, explain why joining clubs or volunteering on campus can introduce you to new people. In this episode, they will be speaking on their individual experiences from their unique journeys at SFU, capturing the opportunities that they took and how they ended up where they are today!

Topics explored in this episode include:

  • Specific opportunities your hosts enjoyed at SFU
  • Things they wish they had done/ still want to do during their time at SFU
  • How they personally navigated their first week on campus
  • Challenges and obstacles of building a stronger community at SFU
  • How/ why community engagement is important
  • Direct actions you can take to make friends
