During my Experience
Orientation and First Weeks

NUS is one of the most competitive exchange programs to get into, not just at SFU but from universities across the world. This means that the fellow exchangers I met while at NUS has been expectational in so many ways. They taught me more about myself and I constantly found new ways to challenge my perspectives, in turn, gifting me with new lens from which to see the world.

Cultural and Environmental Observations

Through my exchange experience, I got to explore living it different Asian cities like Bangkok, Lombok, Bali, Jakarta, and India. These traveling experiences allowed me to truly learn different ways of living, different values people had in society from those in North America, different practices in society, and differences in the treatment of marginalized communities.

Social and Extracurricular Activities

During my exchange one of my goals was to tap into the Web 3, blockchain and crypto community in Singapore as I heard it is one of the best in the world - and after attending several conferences, I can confidently say that it is.

One of the biggest crypto events of the year - Token 2049 is happening in Singapore next week and I could not be more excited. These Web 3.0 networking events have allowed me to meet pivotal people within the Web 3.0 industry like company founders, investors, Fortune 500 company executives and more. It has been a thrilling experience, especially for my personal development and has allowed me to tap into a huge pool of resources that I would never otherwise have had access to - and for that, I am incredibly grateful.

Wrap Up

My experience at NUS so far has been incredible and completely expanded my view of what is possible for me as a 20 year old South Asian, Canadian female. This experience has helped shape my identity as a person by discovering new ‘building blocks’ that I never before had access to. I am incredibly grateful to SFU and the EDI IMA for granting me with this life-changing opportunity. It has truly been an incredible experience thus far.
