Home Country

Living on Burnaby Mountain at Simon Fraser University was like stepping into a whole new world, especially coming from the busy streets of Mumbai. The mountain became my home for most of my time at SFU, and it was quite a different experience.

Every morning, I woke up to misty views and fresh air. The campus homes, surrounded by green trees, were a peaceful change from Mumbai's hustle. Even going to class felt different — sometimes uphill, but always with beautiful mountain scenery.

One of the best parts of my time on the mountain was the dining hall. It wasn't just a place to grab a meal; it was where I made my best friends. We'd gather there, share stories, and laugh over late-night snacks. The dining hall became our meeting spot, and the friends I made there turned into my second family.

Every part of Burnaby Mountain holds a memory for me. The pathways winding through the trees, the open spaces with views of the mountains, and the quiet corners where I could escape for a moment of peace — each spot became so special.

The winter on the mountain brought a special kind of magic. The snow-covered paths turned into our playground, and the memories of building snowmen and having impromptu snowball fights with friends are some of the happiest moments I carry with me.

Even the quiet spots, like the reflecting pond and the burnaby mountain park, hold so many stories. They became places where I bonded with friends over shared dreams and plans for the future.

As much as I loved the mountain's calm, the city lights of Vancouver in the distance added a touch of excitement. Exploring the city on weekends with my friends brought a different kind of energy to our lives, creating a perfect balance to our mountain retreat.

Staying on Burnaby Mountain until my second last semester wasn't just about classes or exams. It was about the friendships formed, the laughter echoing through every corner, and the memories etched into the landscape. Burnaby Mountain wasn't just my home; it was the backdrop to a story filled with friendship and unforgettable moments.
