While working at Samsung as a Business Analyst, I was responsible for generating weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to monitor the performance of various Knox products and solutions, which required me to utilize powerful BI tools like Tableau. While creating pivot tables and charts in MS Excel to interpret raw data and identify areas of market opportunity, I spent a lot of time producing actionable business insights to support data-driven decision making for cross-functional teams. To enhance collaboration between key personnel, I proactively engaged in weekly scrum sessions with data analysts and senior data engineers to communicate dashboard requirements for improved visibility of product KPIs.

Throughout this experience, I learned how to tell a story with data through strong writing and presentation skills and how to pull, analyze, drill down, and report on data trends. While working on building reports for different audiences, I also learned how to deliver findings in a clear and concise manner, which is fundamental to ensuring all players understand the underlying message behind the insights being presented and can then put recommendations into place. While working closely with the company data, I also recognized the importance between building strong relationships with members outside of your direct team. As a Business Analyst, its crucial to understand the cause-and-effect of any event to tell a compelling story using narratives and visualizations, which often requires directly reaching out to members outside of your team such as the Product, Marketing, or Operations team.

As the end of my 8-month co-op term approaches, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities and experiences I was able to gain while working for such a large organization. Although this work-term flew by quickly, I was able to quickly adapt to my working environment in ways that allowed me to build core skills in Business Analytics as well as expand my technical knowledge. In the future, I plan to transfer these skills into my next occupation. When faced with situations where I need to communicate important information in the next company I work for, I plan to provide daily to weekly status updates on task progress, actively engage in Q&A sessions to understand business needs and deliver findings in multiple languages that can be understood by multiple audiences. Since it is crucial to strengthen working relationships with members outside of your direct team, I also plan to set up 1:1 meetings with colleagues for friendly introductions and to also understand the role each member in a team plays. When faced with deadlines or time constraints, this will make it easier to get in touch with specific team members. Finally, before delivering a final work task or project, I will always keep in mind the needs and wants of stakeholders who may be directly or indirectly affected by my work.
