In the summer of 2018, having struggled with adjusting to university life myself, I decided to apply to become a peer mentor for the school year of 2018-2019. Through my experience, I gained communication skills and gained more knowledge about SFU than I already had. As I showed my mentees all of the resources available campus, I learned about some resources that I wasn't aware of before and I am glad that I was able to enhance my university experience while also enhancing the experience of my mentees. As well, I accompanied my mentees to faculty and on-campus events to help them meet new people and make connections on campus. Overall, I had a great time volunteering as a mentor and I am glad that I was able to help incoming students adjust to their life here at SFU since the transition from high school to university can be a tough fun.
