“I started volunteering in the special education department in high school and it sparked my passion for wanting to support people with diverse abilities in their school journey. I decided to study psychology to get a background in understanding how human development can vary so that I can use this knowledge to support my teaching abilities. I have worked as a Community Support Worker for the past three years supporting adults with disabilities to be included in the community and to have a good quality of life. At work, I take adults with disabilities out into the community and sometimes have people who are not understanding of the people I am supporting in why they behave the way they do. I always try and consider why people are acting the way they do by thinking critically about the situation instead of just jumping to conclusions.” ⁣

Natalie Morrison is in her final semester as a Psychology major with a minor in Learning and Developmental Disabilities. In addition to her work as a Community Support Worker, she has also volunteered in the Autism and Developmental Disorders Lab (ADDL) and completed an exchange term in Australia in 2018 through SFU Study Abroad. She is planning to apply to the PDP program to become a Special Education teacher.
