Working as an editor for the OLC has been such a positive learning experience and has help me connect with so many unique and engaging stories. Although my time here is coming to an end, I would like to share some of my favourite pieces that I had the pleasure of working on. Yes, their grammar and spelling is great and their writing voice is very personal but each of these had something special:
The reason I have selected this story is because it has got a great title, image, and content that is not only concise but it carries a very positive message. This is exactly what I would be looking for in a story, not that anything longer was incorrect but this type of direct entry is perfect.
How Sustainable Website Building Can Create More Green Jobs
I selected this piece not only because it was the first blog that I worked on but also because it was one of my best experiences working with an author and their content. Samiya was fantastic in her responses to me as an editor and I took it upon myself to do a little bit of research on the topic. Working on this piece also helped me learn how to format and source a lead image, which gave me the tools I needed for down the road.
Pursuing Independence for a Life Changing Experience: Exchange at Leeds
Experiences were by far the most common form of entry that I would edit throughout my work-study term at the OLC. The structure that the tool gives is exceptional in helping students through the writing process of their co-op or study abroad experiences and they have all been a joy to edit. However, Jash's piece about their experience at Leeds has it all. Their piece was well-written, personable, engaging, unique and just had that friendly voice that makes you feel like a part of the conversation.
As a whole, my experience at the OLC has been amazing and no amount of 6 am. bus rides could change my mind. Every moment was one of learning, positivity, or creativity.
