We are always looking for volunteers to join our team and you can help us in a wide variety of projects across the site: from content creation (i.e. writing, photography) to promotion (i.e. social media) to testing the site for improvements to be made

SOCIAL MEDIA CURATOR

Description

If you got love for social media, as our Social Content Creator you could assist in writing and publishing various types of pieces for the SFU community. Engage and gain the fun experience of drafting and scheduling content for our twitter, instagram, facebook and youtube channels.

 

Requirements

  • Knowledge and usage of Hootsuite and various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Knowledge of marketing, promotion, and social engagement strategies and/or being involved in as content creator, social media manager, copywriter or similar role is an asset
  • Familiarity with using analytic tools to measure and track social media performance

Commitment 1- 2 semesters, minimum 2 hrs/week

EDITOR

Description

Take your knowledge of writing and story development to the next level and become an editor. As an editor you will have the opportunity to mentor contributing authors through each step of their drafting process through to publication. Develop valuable coaching skills while improving your eye for grammar, story structure, and design

 

Requirements

  • Ability to provide thoughtful, concise feedback to OLC writers to help them create an exception story
  • Exceptional writing skills to  create meaningful ‘I must read this’ titles and concise, compelling teasers
  • Attention to detail to notice even the smallest spelling or grammar error
  • Experience with word (+ track changes,) photoshop and online environments an asset

Commitment 1- 2 semesters, minimum 4 hrs/week

WRITER

Description

Writing for the OLC is an opportunity to work with an editor to improve your writing skills, build your portfolio by developing professional and accessible online writing samples, and contribute your knowledge to the SFU community.

 

Requirements

  • The ability to create a compelling story that keeps the reader engaged

Commitment 1- 2 semesters, minimum 4 hrs/week.

COMMUNITY

MENTORS

Description

Help us to nourish and maintain the SFU community by becoming our Community Mentor. This position provides you with the opportunity to not only mentor students but also help us in testing our new features while providing us your valuable feedback on it. UI/UX DESIGNER

Description

Get involved in designing and implementing user experience and user interface design for our various digital assets. This position provides you with the opportunity to gain knowledge on creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and sitemaps to communicate interaction and design ideas.

  • Experience working in an Agile development process
  • A portfolio that rocks and demonstrates your design esthetic & experience, UX/UI design skills, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript for rapid prototyping.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, or other visual design programs, and wire-framing tools

MULTIMEDIA CREATOR

Description

Be the tech-savvy creative mind behind combining text, audio, animation, photography and videos to create impactful content for the users. This position provides you with the opportunity to build your portfolio on creating, developing and managing interactive content such as newsletter/messaging design, banners, etc.

 

Requirements

  • Experience working with Adobe products: Photoshop, Illustrator, iDesign and content creation tools such as Piktochart
  • Knowledgeable on basic computer languages, design principles and graphic production.

The OLC is always working towards launching different creative endeavors that require cross community collaboration, meaningful engagement and extensive student input.

OLC provides opportunities under the Work-Study Program at SFU. Work-Study is an opportunity to participate in research-based projects and earn a supplemental income. You will also gain valuable experience connecting with various members of the SFU community and build your co-curriculum record. Because a student’s first commitment is to his/her studies, Work-Study hours are flexible, on campus and supervised

CONTENT CREATOR & COMMUNITY COLLABORATOR

Description

The content creator position provides the successful candidate varied experience in content production across several mediums, including SFU Stories, Podcasts, Videos, photography, graphic design, and blog writing. You will be supporting the OLC in creating high quality content that is diverse in topics, rich in multimedia, representative and of interest to our SFU community.

SFU STORY: Migrate, onboard, and generate visually-based stories

PODCASTS: Help expand our high-quality library of audio stories.

VIDEOS: Create impactful educational videos by combining text, audio, animation, photography and video assets.

PHOTOGRAPHY/GRAPHIC DESIGN: Create, develop and manage visual content, which includes our original stock photo galleries.

WRITING: Contribute your knowledge and write long-form blogs that inspire and educate. .

 

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as content creator, social media manager, copywriter or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with social media management tools like Hootsuite is an asset.
  • Familiarity with using analytic tools to measure and track social media performance.

Commitment: 4 - 8 month position.

WEB MANAGER/COORDINATOR

Description

We are seeking a team orientated web coordinator to help manage and refine the OLC by working on existing visual design elements, implementing user feedback through quick iterations as well as troubleshooting. This is a varied position, providing the successful candidate experience in multiple areas including site management, product testing, UI/UX design as well as customer support. Using our Drupal platform, you will modify existing pages and tools on our site, ensuring a user-centered approach to design while taking responsiveness in mind. In addition, the student will gain project management skills and the opportunity to work collaboratively with the OLC team, SFU students and OLC partners to obtain user feedback, as well as managing areas of the site, collecting feedback and analyzing site stats to develop agile strategies and data-driven solutions.
