As a Gallery Educator, it’s my job to educate the public about the animals in the ocean, the threats they face, and what we can do to help mitigate some of those threats so our kids have an ocean to enjoy.

I’ve been going to the Aquarium ever since I was a kid, and the message of conservation has always been close to me, so when I saw they were taking volunteers I thought I’d check it out. I’ve been hooked ever since.

I’m terrified of talking to people, so one of the reasons I chose to jump in and become a Gallery Educator was to force myself to be in front of a whole bunch of people, and be the person who’s not terrified of that.

After a year of practice, it’s no big deal to say yes to opportunities where I have to talk, like this interview. You’ll love your volunteer experience the most if it already involves elements of things you like to do, but don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and be ready to improve, because there’s always room for improvement.
