Position Title

In high school I’d always wanted to sing in a choir but I never really found the time to join one. When I came to SFU, I’d heard how important it was to get involved so I joined the choir.

Soon after, I accepted a position as an exec and began overseeing uniform ordering and sizing. Over the years, I worked my way up to my current position as president.

The work I do is really fulfilling because I’m ultimately ensuring that our audiences enjoy our performances. Witnessing just how much our music brings joy to others motivates me to keep going despite my sometimes overwhelming academic commitments. I’ve seen a huge increase in my self-confidence during my time with the choir.

When I started out, I’d show up to meetings, sit in the back and feel scared to voice my opinions. But eventually I realized that my colleagues wanted me to be there, genuinely cared about what I had to say, and were willing to support me on my journey.

The transferable skills that I’ve gained in this role are priceless. Although SFU does have a reputation for being a difficult place to make friends, it’s much easier to find your own community if you get involved in some way, shape or form.
