Our goal with the Media Minds Program is to help recent immigrant youth who are in grades 5-9 with their transition to life in Canadian society. Having the ability to witness the progress of our participants is what I find most rewarding. It’s really cool to see the students open up to one another over the course of our film workshops. At their age, life can be pretty confusing, so our program pairs each participant with a mentor who can provide them with much needed guidance and support.

This role has helped me to grow in countless ways. For example, by taking on more responsibility in my role, my organization skills have improved tenfold. Even though it can be tough to balance the demands of student life with volunteering, knowing that at the end of the day I’m helping kids face and overcome the challenges life presents them with makes it totally worth it.
