At Media Minds, we introduce immigrant youth to videography. We teach them how to make movies, which helps improve their English skills and bring out their social side. We have some great moments. I remember one participant who was very shy and quiet at the start of the semester, but by the end she was so excited to do her final film project on cheerleaders and aliens – and it turned out great!

I like seeing the creativity brought out in both the students and the volunteers. For me, I moved up to Workshop Manager after spending a year as a Workshop Coordinator. As a Manager, I oversee 15-20 Coordinators who run the workshops. I've grown as a person from this role, dealing with situations like working with a small budget or not having enough cameras. Most importantly, I make sure the relationships between my coordinators are strong, so that they can all enjoy their time as volunteers.
