In first year, I went to Welcome Day and loved the leader there. They really got us involved in our faculty and staff, and some of the students that were in my group are still my close friends.
I chose this opportunity because I wanted to challenge myself to gain leadership experiences. I didn’t know if I was capable of leading a group because I thought it was too challenging at first and way out of my comfort zone.
I’m quite shy generally, but on that day you have to be extra, a real leader. Good or bad, it’s still a great learning experience overall. Some people go to Welcome Day and afterwards they disassociate, but the group I led actually stayed together. They made a Facebook group and added me! It’s rewarding to know that the kids actually built connections.
