I worked on SFU Surrey's Terry Fox Run campaign. It took our team three months just to prepare this one-day event, and one of my roles was collecting donations for our silent auction. So I went into local community businesses to see if any of them would be willing to give back to a good cause, since all proceeds would go to the The Terry Fox Foundation.

Initially we sent out letters with requests, and there were a few brush-offs, but I discovered that donors’ reactions were much more positive once I was able to make that face-to-face connection with them. I was surprised that I was able to get the donations I did – I ended up learning more about myself. I learned how to be persuasive with my interpersonal skills, while at the same time practice patience.
