Since its launch in 2005, the Students for Development (SFD) program has been supporting Canadian university students' participation in internships in developing countries and emerging economies. Melanie Woo spoke to Deborah about her SFD experience.
The Students for Development program, running from 2011-2014, was a project dedicated to securing support for the betterment of children in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Ghana and Canada through active awareness and global citizenship of institutions and the public. Over the course of a semester, graduate and senior undergraduate students focused on food security, health or education initiatives through research and two five-week online forums utilizing new media technologies to foster knowledge pertinent to the benefit of local children and youth. These are the stories of Isabel, Jeanette, Melanie and Sean and their experiences in Bolivia.
