Interning abroad has always been something I wanted to do, however, adjusting to a new cultural setting, being immersed in a new field of work, and moving to a place where I didn't know anyone were challenges I had to be ready to face.

Once arriving in Vienna, I quickly made close connections with interns from the other delegations and took up any networking opportunities. The EDI IMA Award further helped me with the costs of flights, accommodation, and immersing myself in the new cultural surroundings of Vienna.

The internship with the Canadian Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna provided me with first-hand experience and insight into multilateral affairs and Canada's interests abroad. My work consisted of attending security and permanent council meetings, taking notes, drafting reports, research projects, event planning, and coordinating Canada to the OSCE's Twitter page.

Doing a co-op abroad has inspired me in my post-graduation plans and the possibility of working in Canadian foreign services. It is always worth pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone as you never know what you may learn and experience.
