Are you struggling to set your goals for the semester? this blog is here to help.
Prior to declaring my major in Sociology, I struggled to decide on an area of concentration. Knowing what field I wanted to pursue further studies in was a challenge. The thought of making career decisions and choices was very crucial to my life as an undergraduate student.
The constant doubts I had, the changes in areas I found interest and passion in, and the constant discovering and being on a journey of self-discovery did not make it an easy task. I always heard of stories where people ended up in jobs and careers that did not give them fulfillment and I did not want to fall into that category.
Career choices are a very critical and important part of one’s life that might create pressure on an individual. I chose sociology because it gives me the ability to fit into various fields and industries while being very aware of the societies and cultures I am surrounded by.
What you study as a major may not necessarily translate into a future career but those acquired skills can be transferred across careers. Sociology has been an amazing field of study for me, I am constantly learning, re-learning, and unlearning ideologies that don’t that I do not confirm with. It has also made me very active and passionate about social work and adding value back to society.
