Being a student is rough, especially since COVID-19 has made employment difficult. That’s why I’m going to share with you 15 perks all SFU students should know about! I've included links to these services where possible and any additional information you might need. 

1. Apple Products – 10% Discount on iMac and iPads

It’s Spotify Premium, but cheaper. This is a deal for all university students at $4.99/mo. You get to access your music offline! Get Premium.

4. FREE 1-on-1 Advising Sessions– Resumes, Cover Letters, LinkedIn Profiles

SFU has Career Peers, student volunteers trained to advise you on improving your resume, cover letters and and your online presence for FREE, no matter what stage you’re at in your education or job search. Booking an appointment is quick and easy! You can also apply to volunteer as a Career Peer to receive training and experience being an advisor. Learn more.

5. SFU Financial Aid and Awards– Service Awards for Volunteering

SFU recognizes outstanding unpaid service to the University and/or the community, leadership, and volunteer work. You could very well win an award! Make sure you apply if and when you think you meet the eligibility requirements.

6. Microsoft Office 365 – FREE download

You can get full access to applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Microsoft Teams for FREE while you’re a student. Simply enter your SFU student email at the link address. Get Office.

7. HP – Weekly New Deals and Laptops for Students

HP offers great deals on laptops and computers for university students! They update the deals and change them every now and then, so make sure you bookmark the student discount page in time for even bigger back-to-school sales next September! HP Student Deals.

8. YouTube Premium – 1 Month FREE Trial and 40% Discount

As a student, you can get a 1 month free trial of YouTube Premium, after which you’ll be charged $6.99/mo compared to the usual $11.99/mo! Get YouTube Premium.

9. LinkedIn Learning – FREE Access

Formerly known as Lynda.com, LinkedIn Learning provides video tutorials on software programs, design practices, and business skills. Usually, a subscription is $299/year! This is available only to current SFU students, faculty, and staff. Alumni access is not permitted. Activate LinkedIn Learning. 

10. Student Banking – FREE with 6 Banks

The average bank account costs $180/year! Open a Student Account with either Scotiabank, CIBC, BMO, RBC, TD Bank, or National Bank to bank for FREE while saving and studying. Contact these banks to find out details, as most of them do offer a student account and student credit cards.

11. FedEx Shipping –  20-30% Discount

When you’re shipping a package through FedEx, show your student ID when you pay, and you can get a 20-30% discount.

12. Student Pricing Card (SPC) – 10-30% Discount

Purchase an SPC card for $10 and receive a 10-30% discount from purchases in several hundred retail stores, franchises, markets, and organizations in different locations. 13. SFU Health & Counselling Services – FREE appointments

SFU's psychologists and clinical counsellors are available to help you work through issues in your life that may be hindering your university success. The topic can be major family problems or something like procrastination, exam anxiety, or perfectionism. Take advantage of this opportunity to seek help as soon as possible if you need it. 14. Adobe Creative Cloud – 60% Discount

I’ve highlighted only 15 of the many deals and services available to SFU students! There are still many more ways to save (like opting out of Health and Dental fees if you already have coverage, or checking out SFU Recreation's free fitness classes).
