As an international student, I really struggled in my first year at SFU and I was so miserable because I was failing badly. So I had to go on the Back on Track program, where my advisor told me about the volunteer opportunity as an SFU Engagement Peer.

Shortly after taking the program my academics started getting better and taking the leap as an Engagement Peer was the reason for this change.

My first volunteer job was a stepping stone for me because now I currently volunteer for Canadian Cancer Society for children. Volunteering for me has helped me understand how organizations work and it has also enabled me to meet more people and understand the work culture in Canada.

For me getting a job here is one of my priorities and volunteering is one way that opens doors. Volunteering has helped me in becoming confident and it also helped me to get into my masters program in organizational psychology at Alder University.
