Relay for Life is an event started by the Canadian Cancer Society. People submit teams, raise funds, and on the day of the relay you all come together and run for the cure.

It’s my job to get people to come out to our events, and I’ve been involved in a lot of inspiring events and relays. The first lap of the track is always run by survivors. I went to a relay in Northern Ontario that had hundreds of survivors – it makes you realize how important it is to find a cure because so many people are affected.

This experience definitely relates to my major in Political Science, as a lot of Political Science is about relation building and connecting with people. My future goal is to be a Politician, and this opportunity is allowing me to learn what problems people have and how to make change.

Being a student and trying to volunteer can be difficult, but this volunteer work takes precedent because I want to make difference.
