Feeling stumped? Not entirely sure what you can create a submission about?

We've developed the following guidelines for you to get inspired when sharing your next contribution with us.  You are welcome to browse through our Topics section to see what other people have and haven’t discussed already. As always, the SFU Editorial Team is here to help you figure out which topic and structure will work best with your content creation goals.

Content Styles

Find a style of content that works for you by taking a look at the unique, creative ways past contributors have developed content that serves as a learning experience for others.

Top Tips

Provide advice on specific topics in an easy-to-consume list form. Not only are they popular with our audience, but they also provide an easy way to organize your thoughts on a topic.

Interview (Q + A)

Being able to tell a story by interviewing an interesting guest is a fantastic collaborative communication skill to have. Consider the different ways you can create a Q + A story.

Series

Don’t feel restricted by a word count or time limit to tell a great story. If you think your submission can be better told one part at a time, break up your content into a few sections for us to turn into a series.

Multimedia

Feel free to get creative with a variety of unique ways to include multimedia such as graphics (i.e. illustrations, comic strips), GIFs, and audiovisual elements.

Knowledge Sharing

There is such a wide range of learning topics you can share your knowledge about. Consider teaching your peers about a topic, skill, or tool that you enjoy discussing or are particularly savvy about.

SFU Programs, Faculty, Initiatives

During your time at SFU, you may have been involved with one or more opportunities such as Co-op, Study Abroad, etc. Inspire others by sharing stories and advice about your experiences.

Community-Created Job Seeking Resources

No matter where you are in your SFU journey, help your peers and colleagues out by showcasing your resumes, cover letters, project samples, and interview Q&As.

Spotlight

Bring the focus to an organization, alumni, student, faculty, or staff member you know. Consider the many ways you can engage with your subject of interest i.e. interviews.

No matter where you are in your SFU journey, you can share stories about your experiences and anything else that you think will be useful for your peers to know about during their studies here at SFU.

Gallery Submissions

The OLC accepts submissions for our galleries and is currently accepting submissions for the Resume and Cover Letter Galleries. The goal of the galleries is to represent a wide range of samples - representative of our student body at SFU.  We welcome submissions from all disciplines, programs and initiatives at SFU. Follow the steps to submit an item for consideration.

Submission Steps

Step 1: Prepare your Submission

  • Revise any information on your sample that you would like to protect your privacy
  • Decide if you would like your name included in your submission.  If you would NOT like to include your name, use the following convention: 

SFU [Discipline] [Relevant Term] [Program] [Sample Type] Sample 

SFU Engineering International Co-op Resume Sample

  • Remove your personal information and replace it with data that is clearly fake, for instance:

email: student@sfu.ca
phone: 111 - 222 - 3333

  • Review your full submission to ensue you remove your personal information from all locations - header, footer, and content sections
  • For a Cover Letter or Job Description sample remove the employer contact name and information  
  • Convert and save your submission as a PDF and image using the following naming convention:

 Discipline_Relevant Term_Program_Content Type - R, CL, JD_Name or ID.pdf or .jpeg or .png
