"SFU has given me the opportunity to engage with social and political issues critically amongst my peers, and to develop a sense of activism within my community. Through organizing events, both within Residence and as a PSU member, I have connected with individuals who are making positive impacts locally.

For example, my work within SFU Residence Life has also culminated in experiences that I am particularly proud of. One of these experiences was an event I organized called LGBTea, in which I brought together my passion for LGBTQ+ activism with community building and helped to create a safe space for LGBTQ+ residents and allies during an afternoon tea. It was a space to discuss experiences as queer individuals on campus while connecting with LGBTQ+ elders from Qmmunity (an LGBTQ+ resource centre in Vancouver). Seeing the positive impact that this had for residents, as well as for our guests from the community, was incredibly rewarding."⁣

Tristan Raymond is a third-year Psychology major and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies minor and current president of the SFU Psychology Student Union (PSU). Aside from volunteering with the Active Bystander Network, Tristan also works as an Area Coordinator in SFU Residence Life and is involved as a research assistant with Dr. Yuthika Girme's Supporting Relationships and Wellbeing Lab (REWE).
