The KAIROS Blanket Exercise (KBE) is an experiential teaching tool based on participatory education methodologies that employs Indigenous practices to build awareness and understanding of the shared histories of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples in Canada. With this exercise, the team would like to work with at-risk youth, introducing education about Indigenous Peoples and the negative impact of colonialism and assimilation. Since these young minds are our future, the project would also aim to educate the students on preserving Indigenous knowledge and traditions. In working together as one, members of the community will have a chance to develop a menu for the students to eat afterwards, counsellors at partner schools will be able to contribute their support services, and Indigenous Elders will be there to provide guidance and healing for the students.
This project was initially published on the SFU SCEC 2019 Projects: Bridges in Strathcona.
