"I became a mentor for the FASS Connections Mentorship Program as a way to help guide students who might be having a difficult time transitioning to university life. I wanted to help students feel that they aren't alone and that they belong to a welcoming community when they come to campus. I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed during my first term at SFU, and having a mentor to support me helped alleviate the stress I felt. At that time, I felt inspired to do the same for another student one day. ⁣

My favourite part about being a mentor in the program is having opportunities to connect with so many inspiring people. Seeing them go out of their way to create a safe and welcoming environment for all inspires me to do the same." ⁣

Shana Edalat is a third-year Psychology Major who is currently completing a Counselling and Human Development Minor as well as a certificate in Hellenic Studies.
