I really didn't expect SFU to have a club about airspace or defence, so I was really motivated to join the Satellite Design Club when I found out about it at Club Days.

As one of the two Principle Engineers, I have big control over the design and construction of small satellites. I help go over everything and make sure it's designed well. We also have members who work on the hardware and software parts. The difficulty with this club is mainly around scheduling. Since everyone has their own schedule, it's hard to have enough time to do school and spend time in this club. However, when things do work out, it's really cool!

For example, one time we were trying to get the radio model and the main board of a satellite to 'talk' to each other. It initially didn't work, so we used the logical analyser to find out what went wrong, and then we fixed it. Moments where we can finally get things to work are definitely the best. Ideally, I want to do something with space after I graduate, and there's really no other way to get experience in that kind of environment without being part of a team that works towards some complicated engineering challenges.
