“As a grad student, the two questions I dreaded were 'how’s your research going?' and 'when are you going to be done?' Therefore, naturally, my favorite memories are those of the smaller victories and accomplishments that came through this long strenuous journey. This includes my neuropsychology practicums, defending my MA thesis, walking up on stage to receive my MA degree and taking photos with my family & friends, successfully matching to the only residency I applied to, defending my dissertation, and finally convocating. Convocation feels different this year, and it is not how I imagined my PhD convocation to look like, but I’m thankful and proud to have fulfilled one of my dreams.

Many people who I believe God placed in my life helped me along my journey to the PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology. Thank you to Dr. Wendy and Dr. Al Thornton, Dr. Shapiro, and to the several inspiring clinical supervisors I’ve had along the way who instilled a love and passion for neuropsychology within me. Finally, a huge shout out to my husband and family who are my backbone, and to my friends who kept me sane. Thank you for cheering me on, lifting me up, and believing in me.”

Maryam Demian graduates with a PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology. After graduation, she plans to work as a clinical neuropsychologist to provide neuropsychological assessments and intervention to those who are suffering from neurological, medical, and psychiatric conditions that affect their cognitive and emotional functioning.
