I did a bunch of volunteering in high school, but had been largely unable to find time to volunteer after becoming a university student. I found a posting online for an Earth Day event with Party for the Planet, so I applied to become a student volunteer and the rest is history.

Having the ability to engage with the community has been the most rewarding aspect of my volunteer experience. It can sometimes be hard to plan for unpredictable weather when we hold our events outdoors, but situations like that have taught me how to make the best of things regardless of the circumstances.

I’ve grown more confident in this role; being able to connect with people from all walks of life is something that will continue to benefit me as I go forward. Volunteering has allowed me to find myself, step out of my comfort zone and make new friends. It’s something that I recommend all students take part in during their time at university.
