Victoria Brown is a second-year psychology major and counselling and human development minor who won first place in the 2021 SLC Undergraduate Writing Contest (Middle Years Category).

Victoria's paper discusses the influence that social media has on adolescents to encourage self-comparison and insecurity. Alternatively, self-compassion is empirically supported to be protective against mental health challenges through fostering grace for and acceptance of the self. Her paper argues that implementing promotion of self-compassion practices through social media influencers will buffer the negative effects adolescents experience.

Victoria will be pursing a Master's in Counselling after graduation, planning to become a counsellor one day.
