I joined UNICEF SFU in my first year of university. The students and the executives were really welcoming, and I just felt like I belonged right away. We meet once a week and come up with events based on initiatives that members in the club are really passionate about.

These events help to advocate for various causes and educate students about real world issues. Even though we are students, we believe that we can make a difference.

Through event planning and my role as Co-President, I have gained a lot of interpersonal skills. There is a lot of communication involved, and you really have to put your heart into everything you do.

A lot of people think that SFU is a commuter school and that it’s hard to feel like you belong, but I think clubs on campus create that family feeling. Getting involved in your community is one of the biggest things that you can do to grow yourself as well as grow your community. You really don't know what you can do unless you try.
