I was introduced to the Human Resources Students’ Association through a mentee in the Business program. As Director of Marketing, I help plan workshops and events that can engage the SFU student body and inform them about opportunities that are available in Human Resources.
Sometimes there’s a lot of backlog and unspecified event dates, so marketing can be difficult. I have found that planning ahead and working as a team helps mitigate these problems; we always cooperate and encourage each other to meet deadlines.
HRSA has also given me the opportunity to be involved in creating different initiatives on campus, such as Humans of Beedie. It’s an initiative that allows Beedie students to share their experiences, just like Volunteers of SFU.
Those initiatives have allowed me to gain interviewing skills and really connect with other students in my faculty. Being involved with HRSA has shown me that volunteering is all about the learning experience. No matter how much or how little experience you have, you always have the opportunity to shine.
