I’ve always been really interested in reducing the stigma around eating disorders and in providing survivors with the care they need, so I wanted to get some hands-on experience in the field. The recovery process can be very difficult, so having a support system can be a major help to program participants. I heard about Looking Glass Foundation while I was in treatment myself. They have a ton of ways to get involved, but I chose to be a Hand-In Hand Support volunteer.

Every week, I meet with someone who’s recovering from an eating disorder to lend an ear and encourage them along their path. Giving back to those who need it is where I get the most satisfaction. I want to pursue a career in clinical psychology so this role has been really helpful in exposing me to a range of differing perspectives on what it means to live with and to overcome an eating disorder.
